Should You Buy a King Size Mattress and Bed?
March 23rd, 2015
Getting enough sleep is essential for our everyday lives, and when we share a bed with a partner we run the risk of being too cramped and losing sleep as a result. Because of this, lots of people choose king size mattress and beds so they can have as much personal space as possible. However, as with everything in life, there are some drawbacks. Read on to find out what they are so you can decide if a king size is for you.
Bedroom Floor Space
First of all, having a king size mattress and bed will inevitably take up more space than a double bed. Depending on the size of your bedroom and other furniture this may or may not be an issue, but it is a factor that should be considered carefully. In your bedroom you need to ensure that there is enough room for both you and your partner to manoeuvre around the bed, so it might be a good idea to mark out where the bed will be and see if it works. You should take extra care if it is a new house as you might not have had chance to experience the room to work out how much room you need. Similarly, if it is likely that you will soon be requiring extra furniture, such as a nursing chair if there is a baby on the way, then you should take this into careful consideration as beds are difficult and expensive to replace.
Making the Bed
Secondly, having a king size bed and mattress will also mean that making the bed becomes a more difficult task. Attaching the sheet becomes a lot more difficult when you have to reach across the bed, and you will also inevitably have a larger duvet to put the cover onto. Similarly, cleaning the king size mattress will become more difficult due to the larger surface area and washing the bedding will require more room in the washing machine and on the washing line/ in the dryer.
Sharing the Duvet
One common concern with buying a king size mattress and bed is that there won’t be enough duvet to go round. Even with a king size duvet, there can still be problems if there’s more than one person in the bed as lots of us tend to hug the duvet or stretch it far over ourselves. This problem is easily solved, however, with the purchase of a super king duvet or two duvets. Two duvets is ideal if one partner is a notorious duvet stealer since it ensures that neither partner is without a cover. This can, however, make partners feel distanced from each other and in these cases simply buying a duvet one size larger than the king size mattress will solve the problem.
There are many advantages and disadvantages to having a king size bed, but ultimately the concerns with room manoeuvring and bed making are often outweighed by the need for good night’s sleep. What is most important is that you and your partner sleep well and that your relationship benefits as a result. If you would like to order your king size mattress, visit www.sealy.co.uk today.
