Meet our sleep ambassador
Back in January 2016, we launched the search for our official Sleep Ambassador – someone who would literally be paid to sleep.
Lancashire pensioner, Desmond Wilcox was selected from hundreds of applications after the vacancy. Renowned among his family and friends for his ability to fall asleep absolutely anywhere, Desmond is an active 70-year-old who spends the majority of his free time gardening and enjoying the great outdoors.
The role involved testing our beds, pillows and duvets, as well as trialling a number of sleep experiences including testing sleep-aids and snooze-enhancing diets and lifestyles. Desmond’s appointment forms part of our commitment towards helping the country become a nation of deeper sleepers.
Shortlisted applicants included a busy working mum from Manchester, a sleep fanatic from Scotland, a hotel manager from West Yorkshire and a self-confessed ‘archetypal corpse sleeper” from Worcester. The final decision was made by Sealy. Find out more about them here.
Desmond is now a member of our Deeper Sleeper Panel. You can find out more about them here.
