Sealy and Steps Charity: Supporting Rest, Recovery, and Better Sleep

Sealy Elevate Ultra Daito Combination Mattress — handmade in the UK for exceptional comfort, spinal support and cooling sleep technology

A good night’s sleep is something many of us take for granted — but for individuals living with lower limb conditions, comfort and support in bed can make a world of difference. That’s why Sealy, the world’s leading mattress brand, was proud to partner with Steps Charity, a UK-based organization supporting those affected by lower limb conditions such as clubfoot, hip dysplasia, and other complex mobility challenges.
Through this collaboration, Sealy was able to donate a brand-new mattress to a Steps Charity beneficiary, providing not just a bed, but the possibility of restorative, pain-free sleep.

A Real Difference in Comfort and Recovery

Before receiving the new mattress, the recipient had been searching for an upgrade — struggling with comfort and pain that made quality rest difficult. After the donation, the change was immediate and noticeable.
“The mattress is much more comfortable than my old one,” they shared. “I was actually in the process of looking to buy a new one when I entered the competition.”
I went for the single Elevate Ultra Daito Combination Mattress. It took around two weeks to adjust to the firmer support, but the transition was well worth it.
“It wasn’t a negative experience, just a different experience. Now I wake up feeling like I’ve had a better rest.”

Better Sleep, Less Pain

For many people with lower limb or nerve-related conditions, finding a supportive sleeping surface is vital. This recipient, who experiences nerve damage in one leg, noticed meaningful improvements right away:
“My pain levels have improved slightly since using the mattress. I can lie slightly longer before the pain starts.”
The benefits didn’t stop there. They also noticed less pressure and discomfort in key areas that are often affected during rest:
“There’s been a big improvement in relief in my lower back and shoulders. My body feels more supported when side sleeping.”

Firm, Supportive, and Cool

The chosen Sealy mattress offered the right balance of firmness and comfort. Its design helps keep the spine aligned while reducing pressure on joints and muscles — key for anyone managing long-term mobility challenges.
“The firmness is helping to support my back and hips more,” they explained. “It doesn’t sag and supports me well. I also feel slightly cooler on this mattress compared to my old one, which contributes to a more comfortable sleep.”
Although the mattress’s edge felt firmer than expected, this was a minor adjustment compared to the overall benefits:
“The rim around the edge is quite hard, but overall, I’m very happy with it.”

Recommending Rest to Others

When asked if they’d recommend the mattress to others with similar pain or lower limb conditions, the response was an enthusiastic yes:
“Absolutely — I am delighted with the difference it has made to my comfort and sleep.”

Partnership with Purpose

This collaboration between Sealy and Steps Charity shows how thoughtful partnerships can have a direct, meaningful impact on people’s everyday lives. For those living with mobility challenges, something as simple as a good night’s sleep can be a powerful step toward better wellbeing, pain relief, and independence.
At Sealy, we’re proud to support the mission of Steps Charity — helping ensure that everyone, regardless of their physical condition, can rest easy and wake up ready to face the day.

About the Author

My name is Ryan Eddowes, I’m a qualified Zoologist and proud ambassador for Steps Charity. I was born with Bilateral Talipes, commonly known as clubfoot, a condition that caused my feet to turn inward and downward, bringing years of pain, surgeries, and challenges. Despite numerous operations, my condition worsened as I got older, and I eventually underwent a below-the-knee amputation on my right leg. It was the hardest decision of my life, but also the most freeing. After nearly 30 years of constant pain, I can finally walk without it. That moment changed everything.

While working at Dreams (2022–2025), I had the opportunity to learn about Sealy’s incredible mattresses and the comfort they provide. I immediately saw how their products could help Steps Charity beneficiaries who live with lower limb conditions. I shared this vision with the Sealy team, and they went above and beyond, donating a mattress to one of our members.

Now, Steps and Sealy are proudly working together to bring comfort, support, and hope to everyone living with lower limb conditions, because everyone deserves to rest without pain.
